About the board
Calgary IMS is an Alberta registered non-profit society. Our board members undertake responsible governance and management of the Society and participate in organizing and delivering the activities and events Calgary IMS offers in support of our Mission and Vision.

About the role
Board terms are two years from the time of election.
Board members are part of a team committed to decision-making, planning, and presenting Calgary IMS activities. We contribute to visions for the future of the Insight Meditation community in Calgary and the role Calgary IMS can play as part of that future.
Board members uphold the purpose, vision, and mission of Calgary Insight Meditation Society and represent the Society’s interests with integrity, acting in accordance with the Society Bylaws, values, and policies. Please read our Vision, Mission and Values statements here.
Board meetings usually take place every two months and board members may be part of a committee with meetings outside of the regular board meetings.

About our director selection process
Directors must be Calgary IMS members in good standing.
After learning about our Vision, Mission and Values on the About page, please familiarize yourself with what we do. Check out the Home and Practice pages and our newsletter. Attend the drop-in meditation group or a retreat or other event to meet other Calgary IMS members and directors. You can also read our Code of Ethics for Teachers and Board Directors here.

A director will contact you to arrange a meeting with several board members to get to know one another and address any questions either party might have.
If both the Calgary IMS Board of Directors and the you decide the process should move forward, you will be invited to attend a board meeting.
If both both the board and you agree you’d like to be nominated, a director will nominate you to become a director and stand for election.
Election of new directors typically occurs at the Calgary IMS Annual General Meeting each spring. Election of directors may also occur at board meetings during other times of the year if a position must be filled prior to the next AGM.
