Non-Residential Weekend Retreat with Jeanne Corrigal

October 4-6, 2019
Gladdening the Mind and Heart:
A Path to Liberation

The Buddha’s teaching on wise effort supports freedom in four ways: through preventing and abandoning patterns and states that lead to suffering, and through cultivating and sustaining wholesome states that lead to peace.  We will explore these four efforts with particular attention to the wholesome, gladdening states, and how these are themselves an essential part of the path to liberation.

Calgary IMS is excited to welcome Jeanne Corrigal to lead our fall non-residential retreat! Jeanne is certified by the Spirit Rock Insight Meditation Centre as a Community Dharma Leader (2012), trained by Jack Kornfield and other senior teachers. Along with two other Canadian teachers, Jeanne is currently taking a specialized 4-year Insight Meditation Teacher Training program with Joseph Goldstein and other international teachers, through the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts.

Jeanne is the Community Dharma Leader of the Saskatoon Insight Meditation Community and is a certified Life Skills Coach Trainer with 23 years of experience. She is especially drawn to nature-based mindfulness and compassion practices as powerful ways of connecting us with our own inner nature of peace and stillness. Jeanne is Métis, and one of her first teachers in loving presence was Cree Elder Jim Settee.

Registrants will receive more information about the retreat closer to the date, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact Carmen at

About dana ~ As part of a 2500-year tradition, Jeanne doesn't charge a set fee for leading the retreat, but gratefully accepts donations. Dana supports her ability to continue sharing the Buddha's teachings, enables students of Dhamma to engage in their own practice of generosity, as well as allowing individuals of various means to attend retreats. Want to understand more about dana practice? The Regina Insight Meditation Community has a nice summary about it here.

* What do we mean by a 'silent' retreat? Silence helps deepen the meditation experience, allowing us to turn inward and open to our own experience. During the retreat, participants refrain from speaking to one another and are mindful in their movements and actions to maintain a quiet environment that supports mindful reflection. Speech is permitted during meetings with the teacher, or Q & A periods.

Notice of cancellation 8 -27 days prior to retreat start date: 50% of registration fee will be refunded; meal deposit fees may be charged, where applicable.
Notice of cancellation 7 days or fewer prior to retreat start date: No refund
