Non-Residential Weekend Retreat with Heather Martin
October 12 - 14
Awakening the Heart's potential
Many of us feel that we have had to turn the precious gift of being alive into a routine existence, thus limiting or forgetting our innate depth and potential. In this retreat, we will explore how to access and engage those factors which bring about the Awakening of our spirits, which we are all secretly longing for.
Take this wonderful opportunity for a weekend of mindfulness and peace with Heather Martin in the midst of the busy fall season! This will be a silent meditation retreat*, open to meditators of all levels of experience. Practice will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, Dharma talks and opportunities for Q&A. Heather will offer a public talk on Friday, Oct. 12 from 7-9PM at the retreat venue.
Heather Martin is an approachable and insightful teacher who has been practicing since 1972. Trained through Spirit Rock Meditation Centre, she has been leading retreats in the US and Canada for many years and is the guiding teacher for Salt Spring Island Insight Meditation Community.
Registrants will receive more information about the retreat closer to the date, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact Carmen at email@example.com.
Scholarships: There are a limited number of scholarships available for this retreat through Calgary IMS. If finances are a barrier to attending you can apply for a bursary to cover part of the cost. To inquire, please contact Richard at firstname.lastname@example.org

As part of a 2500-year tradition, Heather doesn't charge a set fee for leading the retreat, but gratefully accepts donations. Dana supports her ability to continue sharing the Buddha's teachings as her livelihood, enables students of Dhamma to engage in their own practice of generosity, as well as allowing individuals of various means to attend retreats. Want to understand more about dana practice? The Regina Insight Meditation Community talks about it here.
* What do we mean by a 'silent' retreat? Silence helps deepen the meditation experience, allowing us to turn inward and open to our own experience. During the retreat, participants refrain from speaking to one another, are mindful in their movements and actions to maintain a quiet environment that supports mindful reflection. Speech is permitted during Q&A or group discussion sessions.

Retreats involve a number of upfront costs that are based on the number of registrants, including items such as facility fees, accommodation, food, supplies, teacher travel and accommodation costs (for out of town teachers). Most of these costs are fixed and are not able to be reduced when a registrant cancels. This policy is intended to provide a fair process that applies to all registrants equally:
Non-residential weekend retreats
Notice of cancellation greater than 28 days (4 weeks) prior to retreat start date: $25
Notice of cancellation 8 -27 days prior to retreat start date: 50% of registration fee, including cost of food where applicable
Notice of cancellation 7 days or fewer prior to retreat start date: No refund
Cancellations due to personal, family, or medical emergencies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, but a $25 fee may still apply.
